Description
As the number of cancer survivors continue to grow rapidly with improved therapies and an aging population, the need for medical providers to assume the care for cancer survivors is not only inevitable, but vital for ensuring the optimal care of these patients. Consequently, there is a need for physicians involved in the treatment of cancers (medical oncologists, hematologists, oncologic surgeons, and radiation oncologists) to teach primary care physicians, gynecologists, internists, family practice physicians, and general surgeons best practices for caring and managing patients after a cancer diagnosis.
The goal of this symposium is to provide medical professionals with the necessary knowledge to improve the care of adult and childhood cancer survivors by discussing the current guidelines for screening and monitoring for cancer recurrence as well as anticipating and preventing long-term complications and risks associated with cancer treatments, particularly new therapies.
