Description

This session will use the 2020 Cyber Attack on University of Vermont Medical Center to serve as introduction into the digital threats facing modern hospitals, show how an evolving work-flow came together to meet the challenge of patient care without an EHR, and serve as a road-map for policies and plans to be made to prepare your organization for a cyber attack.

Objectives

Recognize the growing threat of Cyber Attacks to healthcare organizations

Describe the scope of the UVMMC cyber outage

Recognize critical operations which require rapid implementation of new processes to support Path and Lab Medicine services

Identify potential mitigation plans to prepare for an extensive and prolonged cyber outage.

Consider steps needed to address the “post-cyber attack fallout” once IT systems are restored
