Objectives

1. To briefly understand the pathophysiology of portal hypertension and mechanisms that lead to chronic liver failure

2. To understand invasive and noninvasive methods to diagnose clinically significant portal hypertension

3. To review the current recommendations for the management of portal hypertension including the treatment of variceal hemorrhage and ascites
