Description

Vascular Surgery topics are presented by experts in their fields and are selected as highly relevant and important to the development of a current base of medical knowledge necessary to maintain a high level of care. These presentations are intended to introduce resident, faculty and medical students the most current and accepted approaches to the discipline of Vascular Surgery including, medical problem solving, surgical skills, and new techniques in diagnosis and treatment.

Objectives

  • To discuss management of popliteal artery aneurysms and natural history of adventitial cystic disease
  • To discuss cessation of anticoagulation in the perioperative period and postop paraanastomotic pseudoaneurysms
  • To discuss management of postop hematoma, indications for evacuation
  • To discuss risk factors for lymphatic leaks s/p neck dissections and postop medical management
  • To discuss management of pneumothorax s/p first rib resections and indications for prophylactic placement of chest tubes intraop

Speakers

  • Andrew Harrington, MD
    • Popliteal artery interposition graft after aneurysm excision/ Code Bat on POD 4 and subsequently developed R groin pseudoaneurysm and hematoma/ R femoral endarterectomy on 7/1 presented to SBUH ED on 7/23 with 7 cm hematoma
  • Abigail Ribner, MD
    • 46M with Type B aortic dissection developed substantial neck swelling likely due to chyle leak on POD1/ 30F and 35M with vTOS who underwent transaxillary first rib resections, both complicated by pneumothoracies requiring chest tubes for decompression
