Overview of addiction stress pathophysiology

Dates and Times

Objectives

(1) Identify chronic drug related adaptations in brain and peripheral stress pathways that drive high drug craving, negative affect and relapse risk in addiction

(2) Identify 1-2 therapeutic compounds that target stress pathophysiology in addiction

(3) Define and articulate mindfulness based interventions for addiction and stress-related disorders

In the practice of evidence-based psychiatry, this lecture will apply to clinical practice/real patients in the following way:

1. Identification of potential novel biomarkers of addiction relapse
2. Discuss pharmacotherapies that target stress pathophysiology in addiction
3. Present mindfulness-based interventions for the most prominent stress-related psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, mood and addictions.
