Description
This presentation will provide an introduction to the development of the retina and retinal anatomy, including arterial supply, which provide the substrate for understanding most retinal diseases. This will be followed by a discussion of the 6 types of retinal hemorrhages, how they are distinguished from each other and their main causes. Ischemic disease of the retinal will be discussed, and include the main causes of choroidal and retinal ischemia, and the features of central and branch retinal artery occlusions and diabetic retinopathy.

Objectives
1. Be familiar with retinal development and anatomy and understand how retinal structure underlies some pathologies that can occur in adult retina.
2. Know some causes of the 6 types of retinal hemorrhage, the location of the blood in each and how they appear on fundoscopy.
3. Know the three basic phases of diabetic retinopathy and their pathological correlates.
