Description

Plastic Surgery topics are presented by experts in their fields and are selected as highly relevant and important to the development of a current base of medical knowledge necessary to maintain a high level of care. These presentations are intended to introduce resident, faculty and medical students the most current and accepted approaches to the discipline of Plastic Surgery including medical problem solving, surgical skills, and new techniques in diagnosis and treatment.

Objectives

Ptosis/ Mastopexy

1. Perform a pre-operative patient assessment and use this knowledge to select an appropriate mastopexy technique.

2. Describe the basic principles of performing mastopexy. Define the vascular supply of the breast and how is influences pedicle selection in mastopexy.

3. Become familiar with several described techniques for performing mastopexy.

4. Become familiar with the outcomes of mastopexy vs. augmentation mammoplasty, and when to perform each procedure, either separately or combined.

5. Become familiar with the different scars that result from skin excision patterns.

Breast Reduction/Hypertrophy

1. Know the blood supply, lymphatic drainage and innervation of the breast. Apply this knowledge to skin and parenchymal reduction patterns.

2. Discuss the development of the breast and understand hormonal influence on breast hypertrophy and function. Relate this to the proper timing of breast reduction.

3. Apply understanding of juvenile breast hypertrophy to the treatment options.
