Description
The Symposium on Tick-borne Diseases will feature researches, clinicians, and educators from Sony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. The program will cover recent advances in research on tick-borne illnesses, including Alpha-gal meat allergy and infections that are commonly seen on Long Island. The event will slso showcase the resources that Stony Brook provides to keep the community informed about tick-transmitted diseases.

Objectives
- Discuss the native and invasive tick species and the pathogens that they transmit.
- Review the enlarging spectrum of Lyme disease with the post treatment disorders and how to manage them.
- Describe the polymicrobial nature of TBD, their diagnosis, treatment and management.
- Identify pathogens carried by invasive lone star ticks, and specifically, about the Alpha gal meat allergy.
- Study the basic, clinical and translational research being done at SBU and associated hospitals and about the possibility to collaborate in these projects.
