Objectives
- Over the last 10 years there has been increasing publications and societal guidelines promoting First Trimester Scan.
- The goal of this lecture is to familiarize the attendee regarding the advantages of first trimester scan.
- At less than 7 weeks the scan is able to confirm the number of fetuses, location, viability and dating. If twins chorionicity can be assessed with close to 100% accuracy.
- Often the next scan is at 12 to 13 6/7 weeks. This scan is not just about obtaining a CRL and looking at the nuchal translucency and nasal bone; but this scan is the first opportunity to perform a detailed anatomy scan and in cases of twins to evaluate for chorionicity and amnionicity.
