Improving Health and Independence in Older Adults through Precision Vaccinology, Gerontology and Geroscience

Objectives

1. Provide an overview of the epidemiology of common infections in older adults as well as their impact on health, function, hospitalization and death
2. Provide an overview of changes in immune function with aging, frailty and varied chronic diseases that impact the ability of older adults to respond to infection and vaccines
3. Review the history and recent advances in the development of more effective vaccines
4. Discuss efforts to increase vaccine acceptance by older adults
5. Discuss efforts to better match the choice of vaccine with heterogeneity of individual aging
6. Provide an overview of research designed to improve vaccine responses and clinical outcomes by targeting biological aging
