Update on Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Objectives
1. Recognize acute myeloid leukemia (AML) emergencies, particularly acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), and understand the importance of immediate tretinoin (ATRA) initiation when APL is suspected.
2. Understand the role of cytogenetic analysis and genetic mutation profiling in diagnosing and risk stratification and prognosis of non- APL AML, and how these information guide the selection of optimal treatment strategies.
3. Stay Updated with the new drug developments in AML and Identify treatment options for older or frail patients with AML, including the use of less intensive regimens (Azacitidine and Venetoclax) and targeted therapies such as IDH1, IDH2 inhibitors.
4. Recognize and manage differentiation syndrome, understanding its key clinical manifestations (fever, weight gain, hypotension, pain, hypoxia, and AKI) and associated therapies.
5. Discuss current challenges and unmet needs in managing AML patients with adverse cytogenetic or high-risk molecular mutations (e.g., TP53, ASXL1, FLT3-ITD, KRAS, NRAS) and explore ongoing areas of research and therapeutic development.
