Description
This workshop is designed for medical education faculty who teach in both pre-clinical and clinical settings. Establishing clear expectations is a cornerstone of effective teaching and student and trainee success. In this session, participants will explore evidence-based strategies for creating transparent, inclusive, and well-structured courses. We will discuss how to articulate expectations through syllabi, course design, communication practices, and course tools. Faculty will leave with actionable techniques to reduce ambiguity, foster professionalism, and support diverse learners in rigorous medical programs.

Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Explain why setting clear expectations is critical for student and trainee success and equity in medical education.
- Identify key components of a comprehensive syllabus that communicates expectations effectively.
- Apply principles of clear course design to align learning outcomes,assessments, and policies.
- Develop strategies for reinforcing expectations throughout pre-clinical and clinical courses.
- Implement inclusive practices that make performance standards explicit and accessible to all learners.
- Create communication plans and feedback mechanisms that promote transparency and accountability.
