Recognize the critical role of mentorship in academic medicine and biomedical research, including the benefits of mentoring teams and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Understand the complexities of the biomedical research funding landscape, including opportunities across public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Realize the key NIH funding mechanisms available to Early Career Investigators (ECIs), including F, T, K, and R awards.

Address the importance of research resources and collaborative science, including cohort development, large datasets, and multi-institutional partnerships.

Develop a strategic approach for navigating the NIH grant process, including networking, early engagement with NIH program staff, and consultation in grant submission.
