Description
Most of us learned transfusion as a threshold and a ratio, not the chain that puts a usable unit in our hands. This session follows a patient with placenta accreta through a scheduled cesarean hysterectomy that becomes a massive hemorrhage, tracking one unit of blood from donor eligibility through crisis to stand-down.

Objectives
Trace one unit of red cells from donor eligibility to bedside issue, naming the processing steps, and each one's shelf-life.
To understand our institution's massive transfusion protocol, including activation criteria, pack contents, delivery interval, and deactivation criteria.
Distinguish which laboratory values are reliable versus misleading during ongoing major hemorrhage.
