Description

Surgical Grand Rounds topics are presented by experts in their fields and are selected as highly relevant and important to the development of a current base of medical knowledge necessary to maintain a high level of care. These presentations are intended to introduce residents, faculty, and affiliated community physicians to the most current and accepted approaches to the discipline of Surgery, including medical problem solving, surgical skills, and new techniques in diagnosis and treatment.

 Learn to identify common terminology in risk management:
bad outcome, medical error versus medical judgement versus negligence, disclosure and hindsight bias
Learn about the ethical and legal obligations for disclosure of harm from healthcare delivery and what the policies and procedures are at Stony Brook for Physicians
Learn communication approaches to disclosing adverse events and how to mitigate medical-legal risk in adverse outcome disclosure and apology
Tips and strategies for reducing stress in dealing with adverse outcomes and the disclosure process
