Description

OB/GYN Grand Rounds topics are presented by experts in their fields and are selected as highly relevant and important to the development of a current base of medical knowledge necessary to maintain a high level of care. These presentations are intended to introduce residents, faculty and affiliated community physicians to the most current and accepted approaches to the discipline of Obstetrics and Gynecology including medical problem solving, surgical skills and new techniques in diagnosis and treatment.

Objectives

The participant should be able to describe the Stony Brook Program in Mozambique.

1. ACKNOWLEDGE the historical, socio-cultural context, and epidemiology of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C).

2. RECOGNIZE the human rights concerns and factors influencing health disparities and gaps in respectful care for communities affected by FGM/C.

3. DESCRIBE a patient-centered medical home model of care that integrates a team-based approach to health care delivery that engenders trust with refugee community stakeholders, facilitates community capacity-building, considers the social determinants of health, and promotes critical linkages to community resources and support.

4. IDENTIFY best practice strategies in the provision of linguistically inclusive, culturally and trauma-informed care that optimizes health outcomes, and promotes the healing, health, and wellness of women and girls affected by FGM/C.
