Description

This talk will be an introduction and overview of key concepts in quality improvement and patient safety. We will review historical developments in QI/PS, the impact of medical errors, key/terms and definitions to be familiar with, as well as methods of error/event analysis. We will then delve into the most commonly used frameworks for quality improvement in health care and talk about ways these tools can be used on a daily basis to develop within your practice a culture of continuous quality improvement and optimize patient safety.

Objectives

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

-review a brief history of healthcare quality & patient safety

-review the overall impact of medical errors

-define key terms in quality/patient safety

-discuss methods for error analysis/RCA methodology

-compare frameworks, models, and tools used often in quality improvement (IHI/Lean/Six Sigma)

-tips for incorporating patient safety and quality improvement into daily practice/teaching rounds
