Gut Instincts: Exploring Microbial and Nutritional Strategies in IBD Care

Objectives

1. Provide an overview of the current therapeutic landscape for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including the rationale and limitations of existing medical therapies.
2. Describe the role of diet and the gut microbiota in intestinal homeostasis and disease pathogenesis.
3. Review the evidence supporting microbiota-based interventions, including probiotics and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), in ulcerative colitis.
4. Discuss findings from the MINDFUL clinical trial exploring how dietary fiber influences microbial engraftment and treatment outcomes after FMT.
5. Highlight the emerging concept of precision microbiome therapy and its potential to complement current IBD treatments.
