Updated Hypertension Guidelines from the AHA/ACC

Objectives

    1) Apply 2025 ACC guidelines to accurately diagnose hypertension, incorporating standardized office measurement, home BP monitoring, and ambulatory BP data to reduce misclassification and overtreatment.
    2) Apply risk-based treatment thresholds and BP targets to individual patients commonly seen in internal medicine practice, including older adults and those with diabetes, CKD, or established cardiovascular disease.
    3) Implement lifestyle and systems-based strategies to improve blood pressure control, adherence, and equity in routine outpatient care.
    4) Intensify antihypertensive therapy, including appropriate first-line agents, early combination therapy, and management of resistant hypertension.5) Understand the role of renal denervation for resistant hypertension, not addressed in previous guidelines.
