Objectives
1. Understand the history of using functional muscarinic receptor agonists as potential treatments for psychosis and schizophrenia, and their current status in the drug development pipeline
2. Have a working knowledge of the theoretical basis for muscarinic agonists as targeting symptoms of schizophrenia, and the relationship between muscarinicreceptor pathways and dopamine pathways believed to be involved in schizophrenia
3. The presentation will consider the possible impact of moving away from reliance on direct dopamine receptor antagonism, assuming FDA approval, especially regarding differences in the safety profile of direct muscarinic agonists compared to the more familiar side effects associated with current dopamine receptor antagonists
