Healing in the womb: Advances in Fetal Surgery
Dates and Times
Start: 6/24/2026 8:00 AM
End: 6/24/2026 8:00 AM
Objectives
- Identify fetal conditions that may benefit from prenatal intervention across multiple organ systems, including neurologic, thoracic, cardiac, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, head and neck, and monochorionic twin disorders.
- Evaluate prognostic factors and imaging findings for major fetal anomalies, including pleural effusions, echogenic lung lesions (CPAM/BPS), urinary tract obstruction, and congenital diaphragmatic hernia, to guide counseling and management.
- Differentiate key fetal pathologies and their underlying pathophysiology, including CPAM versus bronchopulmonary sequestration, congenital high airway obstruction syndrome (CHAOS), myelomeningocele, and monochorionic twin complications.
- Apply evidence-based criteria for fetal intervention, including EXIT procedures, fetal endoscopic tracheal occlusion (FETO), fetal surgery for myelomeningocele, and other prenatal therapies, while understanding associated risks, benefits, and outcomes.
- Interpret placental and fetal imaging findings to assess disease severity, predict outcomes, and determine candidacy for fetal intervention in complex fetal and twin pregnancies.
