Description

Placental pathologies throughout pregnancy will be reviewed by emphasizing the relationship between gestational age and histopathologic findings. Beginning with early gestational disorders such as ectopic pregnancy, anembryonic gestation, and molar pregnancy, and progressing to second- and third-trimester lesions including inflammatory, vascular, and implantation-related disorders, the session highlights key diagnostic features and important differential diagnoses. Practical application of Amsterdam consensus terminology and clinicopathologic correlations will be discussed to enhance diagnostic accuracy in routine placental and products-of-conception specimens.

Objectives

1) Recognize the normal histologic evolution of placental structures across the first, second, and third trimesters and distinguish physiologic changes from pathologic findings.

2) Identify key placental and gestational pathologies associated with each trimester, including their characteristic microscopic features and clinical significance.

3) Develop an appropriate differential diagnosis for common placental lesions, using gestational age, morphology, and ancillary studies
