Description

Dimorphic fungi cause uncommon pulmonary pathophysiology, which is commonly misdiagnosed leading to prolonged visitation to heatlhcare settings. Accurate diagnosis with respect to endemic fungi has recently become a focus for the CDC. This lecture will review new guidance for diagnosis of endemic fungi in the US and the common clinical presentation and ranges of these pathogens.

Objectives

- Discuss the presentation and expanded ranges of Coccidioidies, Blastomyces and Histoplasma.
- Expand on the updated testing algorithms suggested for diagnosis by the CDC
- Discuss the limitations of current diagnostic tests for the three common endemic fungal infections in the US
